Moca Pavilion

This Solutions Studio project, led by artist and architect Elena Manferdini, successfully competed for a place in MOCA’s 2013 exhibition, A New Sculpturalism, which examined the work of thirty-eight major and emerging architecture practices in Los Angeles over the past twenty-five years. The MOCA Pavilion merges a painterly approach to color with deconstructed geometry to create an immersive fantasy for gallery visitors. The hard exterior edges of the underlying cube disintegrate into repeated floral motifs, while inside, mirrored discs draw the viewer’s reflection into conversation with a high-resolution printed pattern—producing a playful, fictional, pop eye-candy aesthetic.
