Arktura Scores Architizer A+Awards Win with Mead Johnson Nutrition

Arktura is proud to announce we are 2018 Architizer A+Awards Public Choice Winner in the Architecture + Acoustics category. Our award winning submission Mead Johnson Nutrition, a collaboration with Partners by Design, highlighted the acoustic capabilities of Atmosphera® Analog 3D. Voters around the world spoke to identify Arktura as an industry leader in architecture and acoustic design.

As a winner, Mead Johnson Nutrition, which features both acoustic ceilings and Graphic Perf® stair guardrails by Arktura, will be included in the 2018 edition of A+Architecture: The Best of Architizer, an annual anthology of the world’s best architecture, published by Phaidon and coming January 2019. It is an honor to be recognized as a firm that promotes Architizer’s  mission to nurture appreciation of meaningful architecture in the world and champion its potential to make a positive impact on everyday life.

About the Project:

Arktura and Partners by Design collaborated to implement an groundbreaking application of Atmosphera® Analog 3D ceiling system at Mead Johnson Nutrition’s North America Headquarters in Chicago. This project served as the launching ground for Soft Sound® wood texture, a naturalistic version of Arktura’s high-performance Soft Sound® acoustical material, made from 100% recyclable PET and NRC rated up to 0.9. This allows the ceiling to achieve significant noise reduction throughout the 62,000 square foot space, while complementing and enhancing the organic feel of undulating ceiling, designed to reflect the banks of the adjacent Chicago River.

Another notable component of the collaboration is the central atrium stairwell’s custom steel guardrails, an application of Arktura’s Graphic Perf® Scripted, designed to mimic the texture of the bridges visible below. Arktura’s innovative design enhances the space while simultaneously serving as an expression of the headquarters surroundings and Mead Johnson Nutrition’s corporate culture and values.
